Holy moly please make the icon for castles smaller and/or increase the alpha blending. Far too dominating of the real estate on the screen.

Oh yes, I see the UK has gained a load of castles.  On smaller displays, the icons are perhaps a bit big at some map scales, I'd agree.

Especially as many of the "castles" shown aren't castles, and some are such small country houses that they aren't visible from the air.  In some cases it seems that an old farmhouse that happens to have the name XXX Hall, where XXX is the name of the village, now becomes a castle.  I think the quality of the "castles" database is a bit variable.

Can you post an screenshot where you believe the POI icons are far too dominating of the map?

Here's one where the castles are a bit on the chunky side:

This is on a Samsung Galaxy S3, which is my backup GPS that sits in my pocket, in case my Tesco Hudl2 packs up / battery runs out.  The scale is 250k.  Clearly castles don't dominate quite so much on larger screens, but they seem a bit disproportionate.  Note that the "castle" on the lower right is bigger than the nearby airfield symbol, which perhaps should be at least as big as a castle symbol.  As you increase the scale of the map, castle icons don't seem to shrink proportionately in the same way as, for example, airfield icons.

By the way, that "castle" - Otley Hall - is not only in the wrong place, but Otley Hall can't be seen from the air unless you already know what it is and where to look in the village.  Methinks someone had delusions of grandeur in getting that listed as a castle!

PS - for me this is not a complaint, nor even a request for change - just an observation.

I agree that the "castle" icons are a bit on the chunky side, but I can live with that if I have to. However, although the icons appear at a scale of 1:350000, the names don't appear until you zoom in to about 1:225000 or so. I would like to see the icon reduced in size a little, and maybe the text as well, and have the names appear at the same zoom level at which the icons appear. It would also be nice to have a different icon for stately homes, large country houses etc that are not really castles, but I recognise that would not be possible if the "castle database" does not distinguish between the two. In any event, there are cases, such as Castle Howard in North Yorkshire which, although called a "castle" by name, is not really a castle at all, but a large stately home! Ah well, back to square one!

No map is perfect, guys. And what one person likes, another detests. There is no pleasing all. In my opinion SD maps are the best ones out there already. And I give Tim big cudos for listening to his customers and continually improving maps further.
